Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was relieved after his team beat Liverpool on Sunday. The victory helped Manchester United stay seven points clear at the top of the table.
“Some of our defending after [our lead was halved] was a bit erratic and even desperate at times.” He said ,
“But we managed to get through it. The name of the game is winning. There are moments where you have to defend. This was one of them.” Ferguson said after the game
United are now 24 points ahead of eighth-place Liverpool, and before the game Ferguson had claimed he did not know where the Merseysiders were in the table.
Robin van Persie’s 21st goal of the season put United ahead in the 19th minute and Nemanja Vidic doubled the lead just after the break – inadvertently deflecting in Patrice Evra’s header.
Substitute Daniel Sturridge pulled one back, his second in as many games after joining from Chelsea for £12 million, when he fired home after goalkeeper David de Gea had parried Steven Gerrard’s shot, setting up a tense finish for the Premier League leaders, but they ground out victory,BBC Reported
