Shakira and footballer boyfriend, Gerard Pique welcomed a baby boy Tuesday.
The happy couple named the baby Milan and made the announcement on Shakira’s personal website. “We are happy to announce the birth of Milan, son of Shakira Mebarak and Gerard Piqué, born January 22nd at 9:36pm, in Barcelona, Spain.”
The site revealed that Milan was given birth to weighing 6 pounds and 6 ounces and explained the meaning of the chosen name. “The name Milan (pronounced MEE-lahn), means dear, loving and gracious in Slavic; in Ancient Roman, eager and laborious; and in Sanskrit, unification. Just like his father, baby Milan became a member of FC Barcelona at birth.”
Early Tuesday, Shakira asked for the prayers of her Twitter followers writing, “I’d like to ask you all to accompany me in your prayers on this very important day of my life. Shak”
During birth, the team assisting Shakira’s gynecologist, Carlota Garcia-Valdecasas was composed only of women and all those who participate in the event had to sign a confidentiality agreement to avoid any leakage and disclosure of information or photos, all this was at the request of Shakira. “Everything was organized, down to the smallest detail,” a source said. “Though Shakira has always asked to have a natural childbirth, it is quite possible that, because of the enormous size of the baby, it could be a C-section. That is why within the medical team, they also have a plastic surgeon to assist her.”
