Elgon Zone Regional Police Commander (RPC) have threatened to close private security companies which have failed to register their guns.

The Elgon regional police commander Jacob Opolot has given a one month ultimatum to all private security companies to register their guns with the police .

While addressing private security companies managers at Mbale CPS, Mr Opolot said there is a need for these guns being used by private security personnel to be marked and registered.

He further revealed that  he is set to help in curbing the increasing cases of gun robberies involved especially by private security personnel and help in tracing them  in case  they take off with these guns.

Mr Opolot also warned that any private security company operating from Elgon zone region which will not comply with the directive risks being closed.

He also advised owners of security companies to improve the welfare, uniforms, transport and other necessities of their security guards which will help to reduce temptations amongst them.
