By Emmanuel Omona PaOkech

Lira chairperson of works and technical services ,George Opio Rashid  wants the police in Lira district to investigate a financial loss of 46 Million shillings.

46 Million shillings according to Opio was allegedly paid to several road contractors in the last financial year.

Opio claimed that Lira district had 54 routine road maintenance contractors in the financial year 2011/2012 which were assigned tasks on quarterly basis but most of the contractors did not complete the work before and after payment.

He also noted that some of the contractors had more than one section of the roads to maintain but ended up not completing the tasks given to them most especially for third and fourth quarters.

Some of the councilors in Lira also echoed Opio’s concern saying that the police should investigate and find out whether the payments were effected to the right contractors and the bank accounts on which the money was deposited.

No arrest has been made yet by the police in Lira.
