The parliamentary committee on public Accounts yesterday handed over the director of Morritex General Supplies Yustas Tumwine to CID at parliament for causing a financial loss of 164 million shillings to government in the false delivery of food supplies to the office of the prime minister.
Mr Tumwine landed in the police CID hands after MPs on the committee chaired by the Member of Parliament for Jinja East Paul Mwiiru grilled him and failed to tell the committee whether his company delivered food as ordered by the OPM.
The Auditor General’s report for 2011/12 financial year indicates that Morritex General Supplies did not deliver maize worth 164 million shillings to the OPM yet the supplier was paid all the money.
MPs said that Yustas Tumwine should be detained until he produces Mr Haruna Sentongo whom he claims that delivered food on his behalf to OPM stores at Port bell.
In a related development the committee threatened the director of Dauda and sons Dauda Kaweesi when MPs told him that he may be ordered to pay 1.2 billion shillings if the former principle accountant Geoffrey Kazinda denies having signed on his voucher for the money he alleged to have returned to OPM after landing on his account by error.
