Parents in Buganda who shun Mengo kingdom scholarships and yet fail to take their children to school are to be arrested as this affects the Kabaka’s attempts to fight against illiteracy amongst his subjects.
This has been disclosed by the Mengo chief for Gombolola Mit IV Kauga in Kyaggwe Aloysius Semakula at the inauguration of parish chiefs and village chiefs for Ntaawo parish, at the home of Sowedi Kabugo.
He said that many parents in Buganda have failed to educate their children saying that they lack money and have also failed to utilize
the scholarships provided by Mengo government, saying that this has increased the number of uneducated children in the kingdom. .He added that it is such children who turn out to be a burden in future.
Semakula also attacked unnamed school owners whom he blamed for lying to parents that they offer Mengo scholarships, and later leave students in the cold after chasing them away for failure to pay fees.He promised that such schools will soon be exposed.
