Mukono Municipality MP ,Betty Nambooze has accused Speaker Rebecca Kadaga of betraying the country by dropping the petition to recall parliament.
Hon Nambooze told reporters at parliament on Friday that Hon. Kadaga has proved that she was under pressure from the president not to recall the House, following the president’s statement that the house will be recalled over his body.
She added that she is not different from other politicians. “We are also going to handle her accordingly” Hon Nambooze noted
Meanwhile other MPs who were chasing the recall of parliament said that the speaker of parliament turned down their petition with baseless reasons.
Members who included Wilfred Niwagaba, Henry Musasizi, and Barnabas Tinkasimire and Joseph Sewungu said that the speakers’ reasons are baseless and therefore turning down the petition was uncalled for.
They (MPs) accused the speaker of acting under pressure to breach the law because they believe that after getting signatures she had no option apart from recalling parliament.
The MPs have threatened to use all means to challenge the decision of the speaker because they know that it can be challenged.
“The rejection of our petition is going to create hatred between members and the speaker. She should revise her decision before the recess period expires” Said Kalungu west MP Joseph Sewungu
According to the speakers letter the petition was supported by 127 signatures but out of these one member disowned his signature and 10 asked to withdraw their signatures leading to the required signature less by 9.
