MPs who have been pursuing the recalling of parliament to discuss the agent matters in the country yesterday finally submitted their petition to speaker’s office. The petition is to enable parliament to be recalled from the recess and discuss the unlawful arrest of MPs over the mysterious death of the 24year old lawmaker Cerinah Nebanda.
The petition was submitted to Mr Patrick Ngorobi on behalf of the speaker’s permanent private secretary (PPS) Mr Posian Opata.
The petitioners who included Mohammed Nsereko, Obua Hamson, Mariam Nalubega, Joseph Ssewungu, Theodore Sekikubo, Ken Lukyamuzi, Aja Baryayanga, Barnabas Tinkasimire, Alfred Niwagaba, Ibrahim Ssemuju Nganda and Gerald Karuhanga among others.
The led petitioner Obua Hamson who is the Ajuri county MP (NRM) after handing over the petition to the speaker’s office told reporters at parliament that they have obtained the constitutional number of signatures (125) to recall the House.
“We have managed to correct over 129 signatures as the law stipulates despite intimidations and threats.We are now waiting for madam speaker to recall parliament because she doesn’t have any option apart from recalling the House since we have managed to beat the required number of signatures”Hon Obua noted
“We have made history. And Am glad to be part of the team which has made history despite intimidations by the government. Without fear or favor, we want all arms of government to operate independently as the law says without intimidations from government” Said Aja Baryayanga MP Kabale municipality
Mean while, the MPs who do not support the recalling of parliament are also planning to write to the speaker asking for NRM MPs who signed the petition to withdraw their signatures.
“We are going also to write to the speaker requesting her to allow us to withdraw our signatures on the petition because we didn’t know the content of the petition when we were appending our signatures on the petition to recall the House. Since the Police have already netted Mr Karungi the suspect and is now making further investigations, we don’t need to be recalled for the special seating to discuss the same matter” The source noted
