By Emmanuel Omona PaOkech

Many men who are being battered by their wives do not report their cases to authorities for fear of being stigmatized by fellow men or the community. This was revealed by Sherry Ngamita, the Gulu Police Officer in charge of the Child and Family Protection Unit.

Ngamita explained that only women report Domestic violence at the police station but a few men report .

She said that in 2012, only 2 men reported and that it happened because it involved extreme injuries on the men.

The Police Officer said that sometimes men come to their offices but fail to open up about the injustices inflicted on them .

” Whenever  they come, they desire their cases  to be handled privately.” Ngamitta said

She encouraged men to avoid being shy and report cases of domestic violence against them so that the police may intervene and help them.
