Makerere University college of Technology is to start making mobile phones .The Ugandan made local phone will be called the ‘Pearl’.
According to the project’s Assistant Principal Investigator ,Cosmos Mwikirize, the design of the phone was completed last year and the prototype will be out in June this year.
The project is funded by the Ugandan government and will cost sh154b.
The Pearl will be of high-tech with intelligent features like GPS tracking, data analysis and biometric security.
Other features will include a ‘mobile weather station’, which will integrate temperature and humidity sensors to monitor and reveal different weather patterns at any given location.
