Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) leader, Dr. Kizza Besigye and Kampala Lord Mayor were on Saturday 26th January 2013 arrested at their homes as they planned to go and carry out a cleaning exercise in the city but were later released.
The police however has not yet dropped their file as they plan to go to court and convict them. Police has since forwarded Besigye and Lukwago’s case file to the state prosecutor before taking the case to court.
Police explained the arrests saying they participated in an event organized by For God and My Country (4GC). ” Dr Besigye and several other members of the pressure group known as For God and My Country (4GC) held a press conference in Kampala which the police declared illegal saying attending the group’s activities tantamounts to unlawful society” Says a release from Uganda Media Centre.
4GC was declared an illegal assembly therefore anyone who falls under the group and carries out activities for or under the group will be committing an offense. The press release went ahead and said, “Police in turn did issue an order and a press release, on 24/01/13, reminding all concerned that this assembly would be illegal. Nonetheless Dr. Besigye did willfully proceed with unlawful action with intent to illegally assemble …”
If there is a case to answer, Besigye and Lukwago will be taken to court to answer to their crimes.
