Stephen Kiprotich was named USPA Awards sportsman of the year during the Annual Sports Awards Gala held at Imperial Royale Hotel on Saturday 19th.

Receiving the award, Kiprotich said, “It is too early to even think of retiring. I would be happy to run for may be another 15 years to win more medals and awards like this.”

Kiprotich was competing with national motor rally champion, Jas Mangat and World Boxing Council (WBC) International light heavyweight champion, Joseph Lubega. Motocross national team which is captained by Arthur Blick beat 2011/2012 Super League champion Express F.C, Elgon Cup holders Rugby Cranes and East Africa Cricket Premier league champions Rwenzori Warriors; they won the Team of the year award.

Former world amateur and World Boxing Council (WBA) International Junior Middleweight champion Ayuba Kalule got the Legendary Award.

Kiprotich won the award in light of his winning a gold medal after winning a 42 km marathon during the London Olympics 2012. The medal came after years, it was first won by Aki Bua in the early 1970′s.
