A celebrity journalist in Los Angeles was hit by a running car after taking pictures of singer Justin Bieber’s car-the white Ferrari .

The photographer identified  the sports car, parked his own vehicle across the street, crossed to get closer to Bieber’s car and took photos of its occupants, said Los Angeles Police spokesman James Stoughton.

A spokesman for the LAPD tells HLN that the photog was struck and killed while walking back across the street after being instructed to move away from the scene.

Bieber was not driving, or even in the vehicle at the time , but the singer did release a statement offering his condolences:

“While I was not present nor directly involved with this tragic accident, my thoughts and prayers are with the family of the victim.  Hopefully this tragedy will finally inspire meaningful legislation and whatever other necessary steps to protect the lives and safety of celebrities, police officers, innocent public bystanders, and the photographers themselves.”
