Musician, Jose Chameleone is likely to face murder charges in connection to the death of 27-year-old Robert Karamagi who died in hospital from injuries he sustained at Chameleone’s home.
Joseph Mayanja who is widely known as Chameleone, together with wife, Daniella Atim Mayanja and the Leone Island crew are being considered by police to being charged with murder of Karamagi.
Kajjansi District Police Commander, Ibrahim Saiga, said the facts of the case changed, after new statements from neighbors and an eye-witness were recorded contradicting with earlier statements recorded by the Mayanja family. “We have recorded statements and are reviewing the facts so that we can determine what course of action to take,” Saiga said.
Saiga said that investigations were on course and that the file was being compiled and would be sent to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
Earlier reports claimed that Karamagi had tried to rob the musician’s home but had the intention of killing Daniella. However, he accidentally set himself on fire and sustained injuries which later he led to his death. His father denied reports that his son torched himself, maintaining that Karaiga called him from his hospital bed in Mulago Hospital and told him that he had been tortured, tied, doused and burnt by the musician and his crew members.
