Gulu Regional Hospital has run out of Anti- Rabies Vaccines.The nurse who is in charge of immunization, Dorothy Lucy Anek told the press in Gulu that the anti-rabies vaccines got finished in December 2012.
“We run out of the anti Rabies vaccines on 14/12/2012 and about 80 patients are not on treatment, Anek said.
In Private Hospital the vaccine cost between 50,000 to 60,000 shillings per patient for every dog bite.
Anek explained that Gulu regional referral hospital register more than 300 cases of dog bites from the neighboring districts such as Pader, Lira, Kitgum and that some come from the Southern Sudan.
Anek noted that the last consignment of anti-rabies vaccines they received were 140 doses from the National Medical Stores, 3 months ago.
The hospital Principal Administrator, Muhammad Mubiru could not be reached for a comment because he is on leave.
