In a bid to scale down fraud in public financing, government has directed all its accounting officers to start daily reconciliation of their books of accounts for proper financial management.
According to the deputy secretary to the treasury, Keith Muhakanizi, government has changed from monthly to daily book reconciliation with the intention to crack down on fraud in the systems.
Mr Muhakanizi added that government through the auditor general is investigating 16 government entities which include Finance, public service, OPM, Energy, roads, water, education, agriculture and Health among others.
Meanwhile Mr Keith Muhakanizi revealed that despite the rift between government and donor partners over the mismanagement of donor funds by government which led to the suspension of aid from donors to Uganda effective this month, government will hold talks with donor partners over the matter and also confirmed that government is working hard to refund all funds to donors as it has done the Republic of Ireland.
Mr Muhakanizi also added that despite aid suspension by donors, national budget performance has not been affected that much noting that performance in the first quarter was at 50% and also expressed confidence that donors will trigger support to the country before the next budget is read.
He further maintained that government is pooling funds from the consolidated fund to pay back donor money however dismissed allegations saying that government robs national treasury to pay back donors.
