The Inspectorate of Government director of regional offices Hajji Abon Muzamil has said that the over 175 million shillings was recovered from irregular sub projects formed under the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund II (NUSAF II) in Acholi sub region.
Muzamil said there were over nine cases of irregularities and fraud that have been investigated and action taken.
Among the cases he said includes that of a 64m sub project irregularly formed in Bardege division, Gulu municipality which is in court.
He said that the low level of education among project members is crippling the activities of NUSAF II projects.
In spite of the significant contributions of NUSAF and other development programs in improving the socio-economic conditions of the people of Northern Uganda, the region is still struggling with widespread poverty, vulnerability and low access to quality socio-economic services.
As a result, the Government has sought to build upon the foundation laid by NUSAF through the continuation of the programme under NUSAF II.
