Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama will be sworn into office today following last month’s victory.

The 54-year-old Mahama won the December 7 elections with 50.7 percent of the vote compared to main opposition candidate Nana Akufo-Addo’s 47.7 percent.

Observer groups hailed the polls as another successful election in the country viewed as a stable democracy in turbulent West Africa, but Akufo-Addo’s party  alleged the vote was stolen.

Mahama had taken over office  in July after the death of John Atta Mills who had ruled Ghana from 2009 .

President John Mahama was born on November 29, 1958 at Damongo, in the Northern Region of Ghana.

He is a communications expert, historian, writer, former Member of Parliament and Minister of State, and immediate former Vice-President of Ghana.

President Mahama has seven children. He is married to Mrs. Lordina Mahama.He is a Christian, who believes in the importance of respect for and tolerance of, other faiths and forms of worship in a nation as diverse and peaceful as Ghana.

On Monday morning  President Mahama with his wife Lordina and children arrived  at the Assemblies of God Church in Accra for prayers  in the morning before the swearing  in ceremony.
