Actor and musician, Wilko Johnson has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has only a few months to live a healthy, non symptoms life before the cancer starts to take a toll on him.

The announcement was made by his manager, Robert Hoy on Johnson’s Facebook page on Wednesday. He wrote; “I am very sad to announce that Wilko has recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer of the pancreas. He has chosen not to receive any chemotherapy. He is currently in good spirits, is not yet suffering any physical effects and can expect to enjoy at least another few months of reasonable health and activity.”

wilko johnsonWilko is one of the founding influences of the British punk movement and is a former member of Dr Feelgood and Ian Dury and the Blockheads. He has plans on recording a new album in addition to having a tour in France and play a farewell series in the UK. There will also be a live DVD release which was filmed on his last tour in UK.

His plans were confirmed by his manager who went on to write on Facebook saying, “He has just set off on a trip to Japan; on his return we plan to complete a new CD, make a short tour of France, then give a series of farewell gigs in the U.K. There is also a live DVD in the pipeline, filmed on the last UK tour.”

In Game of Thrones, Wilko acts as Ilyn Payne a mute royal executioner who lost his tongue for speaking ill of Aerys II during the “Mad King’s” reign. It is he who carries out Joffrey’s order to execute Eddard Stark and currently holds Ned’s sword Ice.
