Facebook might pay its users after being sued.

Facebook was sued for using the name and profile pictures of users who ‘like’ a company because the person’s name, and picture to appear in the company’s ad to other Facebook users.

Facebook decided to settle by paying $20m and clarify the practice of the service terms. The class suit have until May 2 2013 to submit claims and the more users who submit, the less each will be paid. Despite being paid, if more users submit in their claims, the less money, or non at all they will get.

With the $20m, legal fees will have to be paid to the attorneys which will leave less money to give out. If the number of people who have submitted in claims exceeds the amount of money available, the money will be diverted and given to a charity organization which promotes internet privacy.

Although it might mean some people might not get the money, the class action lawsuit might get you up to 10 whole dollars. To get in, you must have received an email from Facebook entitled, “LEGAL NOTICE OF SETTLEMENT OF CLASS ACTION”.
