The First Deputy Prime Minister, Eriya Kategaya is feared dead after being hospitalized for Thrombosis.
Kategaya, who is also the Minister for East African Community Affairs has for the last six months been suffering from Thrombosis which is a blockage preventing the flow of blood in the body caused by a clot or a lump of blood. It is said that he felt quite ill after the weekend and was flown to Nairobi to receive immediate help.
It is said that the 67-year-old is in a coma, claims which his daughter denied saying her father was recovering well in the hospital and was going to be discharged soon. “I am not sure when he will be discharged but we expect him to leave this Hospital very soon. Doctors did not want people to disturb him but at 10:00am today one of us will have a chat with him,” Kategaya’s daughter said.
Kategaya has a clot in the leg but would move up if he did not stop doing a lot of work. “He was stopped from moving for over six months, there has been fear that if he remained active, it could move upwards and that could be fatal,” said a senior government official.
The Minister of Information Mary Karoro Okurut said on Tuesday that Hon. Kategaya is in stable condition and responding well to medication in Nairobi Hospital.
