The Ministry of Education and sports has been asked to provide a special budget that will directly procure Lightening conductors for all Schools.
The Shadow Minister for Education and Sports, Frank Akello while addressing Journalists at Parliament said that lightening conductors are a necessity not only to Schools but also to the surrounding environment and therefore it must be treated as an urgent matter.
She said that an ultimatum which was given to Schools to install the conductors was not enough given the time spent in procurement and most schools are still on holiday.
Hon Akello further noted that she supports the initiative by the Ministry to have lightening conductors installed given the number of Children who perished in 2011 as a result of not having lightening conductors especially to schools that were mostly affected.
In the year 2011, July 19 young lives were claimed and 54 got injured when lightning struck Runyanya church of Uganda primary School in Kiryadongo district.
By then the education ministry’s undersecretary, Aggrey Kibenge, said the recent costing by the technical teams showed that for every building of about 25square metres, would require lighting conductors worth sh3m.
