The president of the Democratic Party Norbert Mao was last week held hostage in Amuru district by residents who accused him of trying to grab his land .

Mao together with two Italian  nationals were in the area to  survey which is over 7,800 hectares of land in Gunya Village in Amuru District when the local residents descended on them with spears ,arrows and machetes for surveying their land without any prior  consultations .

The angry residents robbed Mao and the two foreign nationals of their belongings including a pistol,shoes and clothes .Mr.Nobert Mao was left bare with a vest ,without shoes .The same happened to the white nationals.

Commenting on the incident ,Mao  blamed the incident on the clan chief of Atiak.He blamed chief Santo Apire  for inciting residents against him.
