It is said that Katerega was beaten to death when he was found with sh30,000 despite being told by the owner, Kananura never to carry any money with them when going to work. Employees at the bar told police that the policy of not carrying money was to ensure that no one left the premises with his money.
Katerega was suspected of stealing the money from the bar when he was found with money and was beaten severely with sticks and gun butt to death. Another waiter was also badly injured in the scuffle and was admitted at Namirembe hospital.
It was suspected that Kananura had a hand in the beatings which led to the death of Katerega.

Deputy Police spokesperson Vincent Ssekate said, “After thorough investigations and obtaining the information we wanted, we reopened these premises after discovering that there are other business persons who use the same place other than Desh,” he said at the time.
