A church in Zambia collapsed during a new year service and left one person dead.

The deceased was a member of the United  Church of Zambia in Lusaka’s Chainda compound.The church  structure which is under construction collapsed during a New Year service but other people survived.

Twenty Two year old Ashily Muchinga of Chelstone Township died on the spot while more than forty others sustained serious injuries.

Hospital spokesperson Mulenga Mwenya confirmed the development to MUVI TV News.

In other parts of the country,Zambians welcomed the new year with fireworks and music in different entertainment centers and a few accidents were reported.
