The Butaleja campaigns for the district Woman MP campaigns are going to begin today.

According to the district campaigning manager, Mable Wakabi, campaigns are supposed to kick off today and contestants are supposed to campaign until 6pm.

Florence Nebanda who is vying for the seat is the late Cerinah Nebanda’s sister.

There are five candidates vying for the Butaleja Woman MP slot which fell vacant after the death of the district Woman MP, Cerinah Nebanda. Of the five, three were nominated on Monday. They are Betty Hamba (Independent), Felista Namwihiri (FDC) and Perusi Munaba (Independent). The remaining two, Florence Nebanda Andiru (NRM) and Sarah Annet Logose (Independent), were nominated on Tuesday.

Logose is a former lecturer at Kampala University and had recently been announced as the Democratic Party candidate claims she declined saying it was aimed at tainting her image. Other aspirants, including Allen Wegulo, Hadija Yenga and Wilfred Mulera, who had picked up nomination forms, never turned up.

Joseph Biribonwa, the deputy Electoral Commission chairperson, said, “We completed the update of the voters’ register. The current register has 92,922 people. It’s now up to the electorate to vet this register and ensure that all the people therein are eligible voters,” Biribonwa said.

Elections are scheduled to take place on February 11th.
