Buganda Kingdom’s Health Minister ,Nelson Kawalya has emphasized the importance of carrying out research on various diseases in the efforts to improve on the health service sector in Uganda.
This was during a meeting with a group of doctors who are carrying out a study on to the HIV/AIDS disease at the Partners’ Studies Infectious Disease Institute, Kasangati over the weekend.
A release from the Kingdom said Kawalya observed that research is the sure way to improve and develop the health service sector in Buganda and Uganda as a whole to make it more competitive on the international scene and at the same time provide skills to doctors.
He recalled that Buganda Kingdom has been at the forefront of promoting health services among her people and that the first health center in Kasangati was built by Buganda as a donation from the United Kingdom after the 1st World war in 1914.
Dr. Edith Nakku who is spearheading this research revealed that all arrangements to make the center a world research center have been finalized and soon it will turn into a Clinics Trial Unit.
Nakku added that unit used as a research center on various diseases by Makerere University Students with the help of Washington University of America plans on having consultative forums with other tertiary institutions across the world.
