Hassan Basajjabalaba has appeared before the Anti Corruption Court today to apply for bail after he spent a second night at Luzira prison yesterday.

Bassajja was arrested on Wednesday 16th at Entebbe Airport after he tried to sneak out of the country with fake court orders which earned him another forgery charge. He is being accused of tax evasion which cost government sh142b.

Police investigated whether the consent court judgement which exempted HABA Group of Companies from paying taxes worth sh142 in government compensation claims was forged or not. The money was supposed to be paid in compensation for city properties which the company had been forced to cede to the government. HABA was supposed to pay over Shs900 million to government agencies but received the compensation and did not pay income tax on it which led to the police investigation.

He was later summoned by police to answer to charges of tax evasion and forgery but it was said he was out of the country yet he had been in the country. He was sent to Luzira as he tried escape the country.
