The Arabian Embassy has officially announced that Ugandan Muslims will not got to Mecca this year because of the delayed declaration of Uganda’s safety from Ebola .
Saudi Arabia Ambassador Jamal Abdul Aziz Raffa says that the day Uganda was declared Ebola Saudi Arabai was remaining with only five days to clear all foreign pilgrims .He says that such a time was not enough to clear all the pilgrims.
“I understand the frustration of people who were ready to travel and I even met President Museveni over the same matter but this was beyond my control. Our kingdom is very strict on this and cannot take any risk,” he told Daily Monitor on Wednesday.
Uganda was hit by the Ebola Epidemic in July this year and was declared Ebola free on October 4, 2012.
Atleast 17 people died from the ebola disease including a clinical officer in Kibale district. Five patients were cured. Over 400 patients who came in contact with ebola and were admitted and monitored were discharged.
