Officials from Urban Authorities Association of Uganda want government to establish more five cities in Uganda to break the monopoly of  Kampala capital city which has become so congested due to being the only center in the country.

UAAU officials appeared before the public service and local government committee on Thursday and and asked government to change  the municipalities of Arua, Gulu, Mbale, Jinja  and Mbarara  into cities.

“We have visited these administrative units and are confident they meet the necessary requirements for their upgrade,” UAAU chairman and Mukono mayor Muyanja Senyonga said.

The officials  want town councils of Adjumani, Kamuli, Kira, Kitgum, Kisoro, Koboko, Kumi, Lugazi, Mubende as well as Nebbi to become municipalities.Thursday  and demanded government to  asked that 10 town councils be upgraded to municipality status.

Of recent the congestion of Kampala city has caused continuous flooding especially after  heavy downpours.More people have continued to reside in formerly swampy areas .

    This is not only an incredible plan to upgrading the status of our towns and municpalities but also a step a head to seeing a modern development in the history of Uganda. Surely the stated districts and municpalities deserve minicpality and city status respectively.
