Parliament yesterday honored the 23 year old Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich.

The motion to honour Kiprotich by parliament was moved by the minister of education and sports Jessica Alupo and seconded by MP obua Denis.


The MPs further praised Kiprotich for making Uganda proud and asked government to full fill all the pledges pledged to him and all other Athletes.

Mps included Odonga Otto the parliamentary football chairperson and Denis Obua the manager urged government to set up a national academy and sports universities in an isolated area were all Ugandans would discover their talents.

“Government should also create an independent ministry for sports with its own budget to allow Ugandans discover their talents” Said Denis Obua

Elsewhere the minister of education Jessica Alupo asked parliament to approve the budget for sports ministry to enable them develop the sports facilities in the country.

Meanwhile the leader of government business at parliament Amama mbabazi said that government will support all the sports men and women in different categories added that government is also committed its self to start giving all Athletes monthly allowance.

On to the same development the speaker of parliament applauded Kiprotich for promoting Uganda however urged government to support all talented young athletes.

The 1972 Olympic medalist John Akibua was also honour again by parliament and his medal was tabled before parliament by his son Tonny Akibua.

    well i appreciate the efforts of government to reward and recognise our hero steven kipro,however it leaves me with alot to desire when no appreciation and recognition is done to the rest of the members of team uganda who represented us as well otherwise it is the role of govt to make its own athletes this element of associating with winners only is not good
