The newly appointed Minister of General Duties, John Nasasira has officially handed over the instruments of power of the government chief whip office at parliament to the newly appointed Chief Whip Justine Kasule Lumumba.
The handover held at parliament was witnessed by the Minister of Lands Daudi Migereko, David Bahati and some officials from the office of the Prime Minister.
The instruments of the chief whips offices handed over to Lumumba included the national constitution, the national flag, NRM flag, parliament rules of procedure, NRM constitution, the East African flag among others.
During the handover, the Minister of Lands ,Daudi Migereko applauded president Museveni for entrusting another lady to be the government chief whip at parliament.
Migereko added that with the experience Lumumba has, she will defiantly manage to head the chief whips office at parliament.
“She has been a state minister in charge of urban development; she has enough experience to run government offices. She has also served parliament for a long time, she will use that experience to serve the office effectively” Mugereko noted
“We shall always be available for consultations and give support to her success in the party office. Migereko however advised Lumumba to work closely with the media if she wants to succeed in the office,” Migereko added
Meanwhile the outgoing chief whip John Nasasira revealed that he has trust in Mrs. Lumumba because she has worked for the government for long time.
Meanwhile Mrs Lumumba applauded president Museveni for always keeping her in cabinet however committed herself to follow NRM party rules of procedure during her term.
Mrs Lumumba is the third woman to serve in the office of the chief whip at parliament following Hope Mwesigye and Kabakumba Masiko.
