A fundraiser, spear-headed by New Vision, was started on Sunday with the aim of giving aid to Kiprotich, a former prison’s warden.
In just a matter of days, a total sum of sh293 million has been collected from individual contributions and companies.
Sh250m was collected, on the first day of the fundraiser while sh18m the second day and sh25m yesterday, Tuesday.
Cash contributions on Mobile Money had grown to about sh2m; the amount having tripled, compared to the sh500,000 which was sent in Monday.
Mountains of the Moon Hotel on Tuesday sent in $1,000, Newrest/Uganda Inflight Services ($2,000), Ben Kavuya for Legacy Courts Apartments (sh5m), Ugarose Ltd contributed ($1000), Luwero Industries (sh1m), and Panamera Bar & Lounge (sh 5m).
This money is in addition of the money which Kiprotich won after winning the gold medal at the Olympics. Parliament has not yet come through to say how much the state was going to contribute.
More contributions are still pouring in.
As he arrived in the country, the country is blissful about a man who has given back hope to Uganda this year. In addition, this is the second gold medal for the country at the Olympics after Akii Bua 42 years ago.
