The incoming minister of Health Sarah Opendi has revealed that the Ministry of Health is working with other government institutions like police and the Inspector General of Government to monitor the problem of embezzling of funds and medicines in health sector by healthy workers.
Minister Opendi was responding to MPs sitting on health committee at parliament chaired by Sam Lyomolki over the rampant corruption and embezzlement of funds in healthy sector.
She said that the ministry of health has put in place tight internal controls to, monitor funds released for activities from the time of release to time of accountability to trace individuals who embezzles healthy sector funds and bring them to book.
She also said that the ministry has also put in place internal controls to safe guard and monitor medicines which includes embossing of all medicines produced by government, delivery direct to the door step of the facility, supervised receipt of drugs at the facility by internal auditors.
Elsewhere the minister also told MPs that the ministry of Health is in process of carrying out a detailed inventory of medical equipment and furniture to identify the condition of existing stocks in order to determine actual Gaps and needs.
She also said that the ministry has got further funding from IDA,DANIDA and other development partners as efforts to construct, rehabilitate general hospitals and procure equipments.
