Google is firing 4, 000 employees from Motorola Mobility just a few weeks after acquiring the company.

Of of the 4, 000 to be fired, two-thirds will be from outside the United States as Google actively shuts down one-third of Motorola Mobility’s offices around the world.

Google acquired Motorola Mobile at $12.5b and the cut, according to Google will bring a certain return of profitability. This according to Google ”will be providing generous severance packages, as well as outplacement services to help people find new jobs.”

The packages are said to be worth $275 m and if divided into equal payments, each employee would receive $68,750. According to the New York Times, Google will now focus its major efforts on Chicago; Sunnyvale, California; and Beijing.

In the six weeks of Google’s ownership of Motorola Mobility, Google lost about 236 million dollars on the recent investment, according to examiner.com.
