666 members of Forum for Democratic Change opposition party have crossed over to the ruling National Resistance Movement party.
President Yoweri Muserveni has received the 666 FDC members at Kasese district grounds during the campaign rally for the Kasese Woman MP, Rehema Muhindo, who is set to tussle it out with opposition candidates for the district’s Women MP slot on Wednesday 8th August.
President Museveni criticized FDC leader, Kiiza Besigye and other party officials for deceiving wananchi over the issue of Obusinga. He said that such lies contributed to a decline in support of the NRM in Kasese area which enjoyed an over 90% share of the elections prior to 2001.
President Museveni said that the Government had to ensure security in the country first noting that NRM succeeded tremendously in the security issue and the promotion of development particularly in the education and health sectors. He, therefore, urged the people to vote for NRM’s flag bearer, Rehema Muhindo, who will be able to concretize Government development programmes in Kasese.
He told them that Winnie Kiiza of FDC did nothing worth mentioning during her past service in Parliament. He said that she boasted of having taken one mad person to Butabika during the past ten years and wondered how such a person can effectively represent the people in Parliament.
Regarding development in Kasese district, the President disclosed that Government is to reconstruct the Kampala – Kasese railway line using the UPDF manpower adding that the Government has the capacity to construct mega development projects whether people support it or not. The NRM candidate Rehema Muhindo said that she is committed to promoting health programmes, among other development projects.
