Uganda Cranes beat Congo Brazaville 4-0 pushing it out of the African Cup qualifiers after Uganda moved up with a 5-3 aggregate.
Uganda is to play against Zambia in two games, home and away. If Uganda is to beat Zambia in the home and away games, she will get into the African Cup of Nations for the first time in the history of the Uganda Cranes.
The team’s prowess was also seen at the game of Uganda against Senegal which was held at the Mandela national stadium and managed to come away with a draw, 1-1 against the football giants.
Uganda was placed in pot B containing the lowest ranked 15 teams remaining in the draw as ranked according to the last three editions (2008, 2010 & 2012). Pot A contains the 15 ranked teams and are Uganda’s likely opponents.
Talking before the draw, coach Bobby Williamson said, ‘’I have prepared my team for any opponent since we don’t determine who we play but in football, we can beat anyone on our day’’, said the 50-year-old Scot.
Their chances of winning the impending game can only be seen at how Uganda and her opponent has been performing in the previous games.
Zambia defeated Ivory Coast in the finals of AFCON last year in penalties making it the winner of AFCON 2011. With a 4-3 win in the AFCON finals 2011, Zambia will not be an easy team to beat and Uganda Cranes has to up its game when it plays against Zambia.
Zambia is going to host the first game on the weekend of September 7-9 while Uganda will host Zambia on the weekend of October 12-14 in home and away AFCON 2013 qualifiers.
