TOTAL, one of the France’s Giant Oil Company has announced plans to open up a base in Gulu soon.
The General Manager Total Oil Exploration and Production Uganda, Loic Laurandel confirmed this on Monday while visiting the his highness, the Acholi Paramount chief , David Onen Acana II at his palace in Kanyogoga parish Bar-Dege Division, Gulu Municipality.
He said they signed agreement with Uganda government to take over from Tallow Company in which they recruited eight liaison officers in all the districts, where oil exploration will take place.
Loic said Total is the French company operating in about 130 countries in the world and the French prime minister has signed agreement to explore and produce oil in four countries of Uganda, Nigeria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia.
Loic noted that TOTAL, a giant France Oil Company is operating in about 130 countries in the world adding that the company will bring development in Gulu and Northern Uganda which is recovering from the over 20 years of LRA insurgency.
In March Total acquired of a one-third interest in Blocks 1, 2 and 3A in Uganda held by a subsidiary.
Located in the Lake Albert region, these three licenses cover a total area of close to 10,000 square kilometers.
