Mrs. Okoye was flown to India to get advanced treatment for the unidentified heart illness.
According to a source, Mrs. Okoye was flown to India, Kolkata, and doctors informed them she needed a heart transplant. However, the doctors advised a quick heart surgery if performed could reduce her discomfort until she could get a donor.
However, the surgery was a failure for after four hours of surgery she passed away leaving behind her Jos based husband, children; Ifeanyi, Henry, Jude, Lilian, Tony, Peter, Paul and Mary. She also had grand-children, one of which is Cameron, the son of Peter.
She is said to have been a devoted christian and church minister in Jos, Plateau State.
Speaking about his mother, Peter said she was not only a powerful christian but one who believed in their love for music. ”You know that she was a prayer warrior, so I don’t need to tell you how she stood by us spiritually. Besides, she was the only one that believed in us when we decided to make a career out of music. I can remember that she used to sneak us out at night then to attend shows without the consent of our father who insisted that we must quit music to face our education,” he said.
Among those who gave their condolences was J. Martin who said “Mrs. Josephine Okoye was also my mother. The last time I had a word with her was before she went in for that operation that she passed on from. We all had to stop my video shoot here in Miami for a few days just to honor her. She has always supported me, her children and every one that comes around her and she will take you in as her own child, love, pray and care for you the same way she will look after her own children. My condolence to all her children and husband and my brothers, Peter, Paul, Jude, Tony and sisters, her prayer ministry family and to everyone that loved her, may her soul rest in peace. Amen.”
