The Minister of state for Children and Youth Affairs who is also the area member of parliament for Mukono North constituency, Ronald Kibuule has lamented that farmers in rural areas have not benefited from any of the government’s programs intended to develop them.
Kibuule revealed this while distributing free broiler chicks, feeds and drugs to six farmers’ groups in Kyampisi sub county under president Museveni’s poverty reduction drive at household level in the country.
He noted that most of the government programs in the country like NAADS have benefited just a few people leaving the largest population ignorant about the modern farming methods ,hence living in a miserable life with low income to cater for them selves.
He however advised farmers not to concentrate on poultry keeping since its output comes in a long run .He urged them to engage in farming such that they can provide their families with enough food for consumption.
He instructed the political leaders of this area to personally monitor the performance of the project, solicit reports from farmers on a daily basis, as well as identify other people who have set up acceptable chicken houses, and help them get on board.
Mukono district director for production Dr.Fred Mukulu told beneficiaries that this is a start-up package, and advised them to buy more chicks using proceeds from the initial sales.
