A 42-year-old woman in Malawi was killed after being raped.
Chrissy Yonasi, 42, was attending to a rice field with her daughter and as they were leaving, she asked her daughter to cycle ahead of her to take somethings at home.
Upon return, Chrissy’s daughter looked for her to no avail and decided to go back home to inform her father, Nguluwe, who launched a search for her. She was later found in a maize plantation with severe injuries and taken to hospital, Illovo Sugar Clinic in Nchalo Trading Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The murder occurred in Kanseche Village, T/A Lundu in Chikhwawa district.
Chikhwawa Police spokesperson, Sunday Nguluwe, confirmed the death of Chrissy. “She was discovered in a maize field with serious injuries. They rushed her to Illovo Sugar Clinic but she was declared dead on arrival,” explained the police spokesperson.
According to postmortem results, the late Yonasi died due to severe loss of blood from wounds incurred on her by a hoe. The results further showed that the deceased was raped before being hacked with a hoe.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the main suspect 36-year-old Keson Moyo after a tip off from some villagers. The suspected murderer, from Chapilira village in the area of TA Malemia in Nsanje district is currently on remand at Chikhwawa Police Station.
