The presidential term limits campaign is going to be taken up-country in the North beginning July 1st.

The Western Youth MP Gerald Karuhanga is spearheading the campaign and he made the communication at parliament. “On 1 July we are going to launch a grand campaign in Kabale district for the restoration of term limits before we move to other districts,” he said.

Karuhanga has already prepared his private member’s Bill for the restoration of presidential term limits which he will table for debate in Parliament, he already met the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga to explain his motion in preparation for presentation.

The Bill the Restoration of Presidential Term Limits Bill 2012, seeks to amend the Constitution to restore the two term presidential term limits.

The Prime Minister and NRM Secretary General, Amama Mbabazi, said he would wait for any MP to give him notice of such a proposal before he knows officially what the MPs intend to move but until then, as a party they stand by the decision they took not to remove the term limits.

Karuhanga said the country campaigns would be spearheaded by Abdu Katuntu (Bugweri), Theodore Ssekikuubo (Lwemiyaga ) and Wilfred Augustus (Ndorwa East) . He said they would use their own resources to market the restoration of term limits bill.

“The clause can be amended by Parliament. It was 2005 it was amended by Parliament so it can also be done. We are going to ask voters to ask their MPs to support the restoration of presidential term limits and to find out which side of the debate they are on,” Karuhanga said.
