Most weddings or introduction ceremonies are supposed to be fun and full of beautiful memories that the couple will cherish forever but that wasn’t the case for a couple whose wedding was disrupted by the police and arrested the groom.
The police arrested the groom, Ahamidu Mayanja, 30, who was being introduced to the parents of a 16 year old girl who was in her S.3 in a pride fetching event. The police first arrived and were welcomed by the MC’s of the event from both sides thinking they were guests but soon, they ordered them to halt the occasion as the woman was getting ready to make her first appearance to the already eagerly waiting audience.
The wedding was organized by the home of the late Joseph Ssinnabulya by the bride’s mother Mary Nakidde, 39and the aunt of the girl, Maria Goreti Namukwaya, 35 who were both arrested alongside Ahamindu and the girl. The police had first failed to recognize the groom but instead brought the wife-to-be and asked her to identify the man whom she did and they took them to police in their ceremonial attires.
Phiona Nakavuma studying from Comprehensive High School Bbajja argued that she was already 18 years old but her relatives denied the allegations saying she was 16 years old and she was given birth to in 1996. her reports also show she was born in 1996 making her 16 years old.
According to reports, Ahamindu gave the mother of the bride sh1m in along with bags of rice, sugar, salt and other things that are usually carried to the introduction ceremonies.
DPC Edward Tushime of Kalungu opened a case file charged them accordingly.
