Olivier Giroud has signed up with Arsenal and he will be playing with the team during the Premier league.
Just two days after France left the Euro 2012 quarterfinals against Spain, the 25-year-old Olivier accepted a deal with Arsenal and he is to be paid $20 million (13 million pounds); he transferred to Arsenal on Monday.
“For me it’s the best league in the world among the five big countries. That’s why I chose Arsenal and that’s why I dreamt about playing here. Also the environment appeals to me – the fans, the full stadiums, the different mentality here. So I’m happy to be able to discover this league. It’s about the fever around football here. The [supporters] come as a family, they’re very passionate, it’s in their blood. They live football, eat football and sleep football. It’s different to France. There is a nice sporting challenge as well at Arsenal, and I will play to create history and enjoy myself and give pleasure to the fans. I think that the Premier League corresponds well with me,” he said.
“He has a very good physical presence and is exceptional in the air, with a great work ethic,” Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said on Tuesday. “We are excited about Olivier joining us and he will add an additional dimension to our attacking options next season. He has proved that he is capable of performing at the top level with club and country, and we saw what a big influence he was in Montpellier’s championship-winning side last season,” he added.
“I was attracted by the philosophy of football and Arsene Wenger’s touch at this club,” Olivier said. “I have always admired Arsenal with its great history and reputation, and I now hope to achieve great things here.”
