Parents Arrested Over Children Infested with Jiggers
The police in Kabale have arrested parents of children whose feet were infested with Jiggers.
An officer at Kabale Police station, Frank Turyakira, identified the suspects as Patrick Ruhangariyo alias Kashomesa, 20, a bodaboda cyclist in the town and his wife Annet Natukunda, 21.
They are residents of Omwibare village in Rushaki Southern division in Kabale municipality.
He said the two have been neglecting to remove jiggers from the fingers and feet of their children aged six and three years as well as a two-month-old baby.
Turyakira said the two would be charged with child neglect after Police investigations.
The police said they got information about the plight of the children from Leonard Tumwesigye, the director of Children Rescue Voluntary Organization.
The children’s father said that his wife was responsible for removing the jiggers because his role was to get food for the family.
Natukunda said she tried removing jiggers from the children’s feet, but they cried out in pain, forcing her to stop the exercise.
