Published: September 7, 2011

Most people in Kampala are using it majorly for cooking but many now resorting to using gas and other means.

The price increased due to the the increased charge that National Forestry Authority levies on the charcoal burners. The amount was increased from shs 10,000 to shs 40,000.

The fuel prices has also greatly contributed to the increasing charcoal prices.

Ugandans who are still using charcoal have been advised to resort to charcoal saving stoves which consume little charcoal and keep the food warm for almost 2 hours. They cost from shs 35,000 to 50,000 and they  can last for a period of 5 years.
