Singer Bobi Wine finally tied the knot with his long time lover Barbra Itungo at Rubaga Miracle Cathedral in a wonderful ceremony presided over by the Archbishop at Cyprian Kizito Lwanga. The wedding mass started at 10:00am and ended at about 1:00pm.
Bobi Wine’s wedding was blessed by the presence of several dignitaries who included the Nabagereka (queen of Buganda), Sylvia Nagginda, the Kabaka’s brother, Prince David Wasajja; Prince Jjunju and several Mengo officials.
The wedding was also attended by many other musicians including Goodlyfe’s Moze and Weasel . Bobi Wine wore a nice looking all white suit and he was not short of drama at the function. He made the guests life when he dramatically peeped Barbie from behind the microphone.
There were crowds of people in and out side the cathedral all wanting to have a glimpse of the much waited wedding of one of Uganda’s leading celebrities who is also known as “Omubanda Wa Kabaka” . People climbed trees surrounding the cathedral and others went on top of tall building to the see the couple
The archbishop thanked Bobi Wine ( Robert Kyagulanyi) for accepting to have a formal church wedding “What you have done; to come and get married in church, shows that you understand your religion and love it because many people knew you as bayaga (weed smokers). I appeal to the youth and all those who have not yet got married in church to follow suit,” he said.
Lwanga said he had asked Bobi and Barbie to explain the dreadlocks and tattooing each other’s image on their bodies and was satisfied by their explanation. The couple explained to him that tattooing was similar to okutta omokago, a traditional method of expressing tight friendship. The dreadlocks, he added, was just a hairstyle and not a religious symbol.
One of the highlights of the wedding was the arrival of Jose Chameleone and his wife Daniela. It has been rumored that the two had separated after Chameleon converted to Islam. However, he soon made a U Turn after getting a lot of pressure from different sources.
The couple left the cathedral on horse driven chariot with multitudes of people following behind. They later joined other guests at Kampala Serena Hotel where they had the reception
